Sri Lanka will look to revive its fortunes on the big stage when the island nation takes on South Africa in its opening match at the ODI World Cup 2023. The Lankans couldn’t reach the semi-finals in 2019 after winning just three of the nine games in the league stage. However, the Lankans will have confidence after the strong show in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers and the runner-up finish in the 2023 Asia Cup.

Sri Lanka ODI World Cup 2023 Fixtures

Sri Lanka has a rich history in the ODI World Cup, winning the trophy in 1996 and two runner-up finishes – 2007 and 2011. However, once legendary names like Aravinda De Silva, Muttiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, etc., retired, Sri Lanka has struggled for consistency.

The Lankas will meet South Africa in their first fixture in the World Cup 2023. Ekana, Chinnaswamy, and Arun Jaitley stadiums will host two matches involving Sri Lanka. The island nation, who will play New Zealand in its final league stage match on November 9, takes on neighbours Afghanistan, India, and Bangladesh in the span of seven days.

Sri Lanka has what it takes to upset the odds in the upcoming World Cup, and they have proved in the qualifiers.
